Abloom funded a multi-positional wheelchair for the OCTC in 2009. In 2010, we asked our business partners and suppliers to join in and help an extremely worthy cause, raising approximately $10,000.00 to purchase a newly designed machine called the Dynavox Eyemax. The response was overwhelming. By March 31st, 2010 we had reached our goal, with 100% of all funds raised going towards the purchase of the Eyemax 2000.

Why we got involved

This machine will benefit many children, because OCTC does not give machines like this to one child. Instead, it is used at the OCTC to teach children and to lend to families and community partners for trial use. When families are ready to purchase, there is support available from the Government of Ontario. It can be viewed more like a long term lease. This equipment is very expensive because, like the majority of equipment for persons with disabilities, a fairly small number of units must absorb the cost of research and development. This machine will enable the OCTC to assist these disabled children in attaining as normal and independent life as possible. It is money well spent!

Brief Description of Dynavox Eyemax

Imagine a child with a severe disability such as cerebral palsy or spinal cord injury, who cannot speak or use their hands. They need to tell us their most basic needs, speak with their families, take part at school, learn to read and write and also play! Talking is not possible!

With the use of the Dynavox Eyemax the child can “say it with his eyes”! This machine will speak for the child – he or she LOOKS at the word or image they want to say and the machine will speak it for them.

This machine can be programmed for different abilities and can be made more complex as the child grows and their needs change. When they are young, the machine can be programmed with words and phrases.

Par la présente lettre, je désire vous remercier de votre généreuse contribution envers l'école secondaire catholique L'Escale. Votre participation au programme « Adopt-a-school » des 67 d'Ottawa nous a permis de remettre à diverses occasions des billets de saisons aux élèves.

Nous avons distribue des billets aux élèves avec plusieurs méthodes : par l'entremise de tirages, de concours et de récompenses. Cette dernière méthode ciblait des élèves en situation d'échec ou en difficulté au niveau académique, Suite à une réussite scolaire, nous avons surpris des élèves en leur remettant des billets. Ces élèves pouvaient alors inviter leurs parents afin que ceux-ci puissent partager la réussite de leur enfant.

Encore une fois, merci grandement de votre contribution des 10 billets de saisons des 67 d'Ottawa. Même si l'équipe de hockey n'a pas réussi à se rendre en série, pour nos élèves la saison est loin d'être terminée et votre contribution leur a mis le vent dans les voiles!

Le personnel de l'École Sainte-Félicite ainsi que les élèves se joignent à moi pour vous remercier pour l'appui que vous avez apportez à notre école à partir de 2004 jusqu'en 2008. Votre parrainage a permis à plusieurs élèves de se rendre à des parties des 67 en compagnie de leurs parents. Ce partenariat avec votre organisme nous a permis de valoriser tous les élèves qui démontraient des valeurs cibles puisque nous faisions un tirage parmi tous les élèves méritants.
